Originally from Germany, we moved to the Sarasota area 19 years ago. It was after vacationing in Sarasota in the early 90s, that we became captivated by the beauty and climate of the area and decided to move.

For outdoor lovers, this is the perfect spot.  In Germany, we used to sail on the Baltic Sea; of course, was it fun, but the season was very short, and most of the time we were wearing full gear (usually rain gear). In the winter time, when the boat was sitting high and dry, a stiff northern wind made it pretty uncomfortable outside. We do not even dare to mention the fog rolling in from the north sea –  blocking the dim sunlight or whatever was left over from the light.

Now we live in Englewood, Florida,  and the sun is shining almost every day. Beautiful!  When a layer of clouds is blocking the sun it is still warm and bright. Kayaking is our new passion. Water temperatures are in the mid to high 80s F in the summer time, and at least in the 60s F during the winter month. Yes, “month” is singular. We can handle that – we have seen worse.
