The sun sets on Nokomis Beach

Nokomis in Florida, a hidden gem, is a quaint waterfront community bordered by the beautiful cities of Venice to the south and Sarasota to the north. The area is known for its miles of beaches, great shopping, superb waterfront restaurants and all the amenities for today’s lifestyles.  Are you an outdoor enthusiast?   You just found the right spot. There are plenty of green golf courses, tennis courts, and waterways to boat, canoe or kayak.  How about biking & walking?  The new Legacy Trail is a walking and biking path trough lush tropical landscape. The trail, which starts in Sarasota, is officially over 13 miles long. However, there is actually no limitation when you hit the southern end of the trail in Venice at the old train station. You can go further and further along the Intracoastal waterway, until you reach Englewood. On the Legacy Trail, you are not competing with motorized vehicles.

Across from Nokomis public beach there is a boat launch with plenty of parking space for trailers and trucks.  A brief boat ride on the Intracoastal Waterway and through the jetty will take the fishermen to the Gulf of Mexico. How about a trip to the Oscar Scherer State Park?  Walk along the Creek, bike or just hang out. You can rent a kayak or canoe and reserve space for your picnic with friends. There are lots of shady places under mature oak trees. Bring your RV or camper to find out how it feels when you live in Nokomis.

Celebrities like the key – Stephen King has a home there and Donna Summer used to spend her quality time on the  island. It’s also home to the popular Nokomis Public beach, one of the oldest public beaches in Sarasota County.
